Watching the videos of Johanna Quaas, the 86 year young German gymnast, I realized that she is inifinitely cooler than I will ever be. Apparently she just does gymnastics “for fun” and that she has stopped participating in competitions because all of the other participents were in their 70′s and “I want to give the others a chance too. And to perform against 70-year-olds all the time is no fun after a while.” Because she’s that awesome. Read More »

I have so many other things I should be doing but instead, I stumbled onto this amazing article about Arthur Webb, the 70 year young BEAST who runs the Badwater Ultra Marathon. For non-running folks (like me), let me explain how insane this is: this ultra marathon is a 135 mile course that starts in Death Valley (120-130 degrees) and ends halfway up Mount Whitney. Arthur’s goal time is anything under 48 hours – just let that sink in folks. Running for 2 full days, in 120 degree desert weather, uphill, on pavement that reaches 200 degrees. Read More »

We’ve found another awesome Senior Rockstar to add to our Hall of Aging Awesomeness – meet Fauja Singh, the 100 year old marathoner. That’s right folks, I get winded running after MUNI and Fauja runs 10-15km a day, has run “more than a dozen full and half marathons” and now is the world record holder in his age bracket (see here). Best part – Singh picked up running when he was 89 years old.

Singh mentions that running has given him a purpose and a sense of peace – “Why worry about these small, small things? I don’t stress. You never hear of anyone dying of happiness.” Well said friend.

Check out the article here as it originally appeared in the Guardian. But it gets better – Singh has a biography out, titled ”The Turboned Tornado” (RAD) and of course he has a Facebook, check it here.

And just remember, the moral of today’s story: it’s NEVER too late to start a new hobby.
