Reason to Twive 3- Fall Prevention

Reason 3 to Twive:  For many seniors, nothing can damage their feelings of safety and independence more than a serious fall.  Falls are the number one cause of fatal injury for those aged 64 and above, and the cost of fall injuries is expected to reach $43.8 billion dollars by 2020.  In 2010 falls by San Francisco residents age 50 and over were responsible for 5,211 nonfatal Emergency Room visits.  In many cases, a properly installed grab bar or secure handrail could have prevented a fall.  Unfortunately for many San Francisco seniors, spending money on home safety repairs is not a priority or even a possibility, though the consequences of deferring these repairs could be monumental. RTSF installs grab bars and other safety modifications in over 200 homes annually.
