Safe At Home is a year-round program that provides basic safety modifications and critical repairs.
Safe At Home provides low-income elderly and disabled San Franciscans free light home repair and modification services designed to allow them to live more safely and more independently in their homes. The Safe At Home program is open to both home owners and renters; however, if you do not own your own home, your landlord must give written permission before any work can be done. The services we provide for both homeowners and renters consist primarily of installing/replacing smoke detectors and installing grab bars and other bathroom safety equipment, such as raised toilet seats and shower chairs. For homeowners, we are also able to address some home repair and maintenance issues that may otherwise present a safety risk or that limit access to or within the home.
To receive an application, you may download one from below or call our office and ask to have one mailed or faxed to you. Once an application has been received, it can take anywhere from 1-3 months to receive services because most of our work is done by volunteers. For information about becoming an Safe At Home volunteer please contact our office and request a volunteer application or download one from our website. Together we can help bring the gift of safe homes and independent living to our most vulnerable San Francisco neighbors.
