HS is a year-round program that provides basic safety modifications.

Home Safety Program (or HS for short) provides low-income elderly and disabled San Franciscan’s free light home repair and modification services designed to allow them to live more safely and more independently in their homes.  The HS program is open to both home owners and renters; however, if you do not own your own home your landlord must give written permission before any work can be done.  The services we provide consist primarily of installing/replacing smoke detectors and installing grab bars and other bathroom safety equipment, such as raised toilet seats and shower chairs. Our ability to address more complex repairs and modifications fluctuates depending on the skills of our volunteers and the types of materials we are able to got donated or discounted.

To receive an application you may download one from below or call our office and ask to have one mailed or faxed to you. Once an application has been received, it can take anywhere from 1-3 months to receive services because all of our work is done by volunteers. For information about becoming an HS volunteer please contact our office and request a volunteer application or download one from our website.  Together we can help bring the gift of safe homes and independent living to our most vulnerable San Francisco neighbors.
