National Rebuilding Day

April 28, 2012

RTSF’s most established program, Rebuilding Day is a citywide renovation effort that is the culmination of a year’s worth of planning and coordination. On the last Saturday in April, thousands of volunteers renovate non-profit facilities and schools and repair the homes of low-income, disabled and elderly San Franciscans. Read More…

Home Safety & Independence

Safe At Home

(HS&I) is a year-round program that provides safety modifications. Each house is provided with bathroom safety equipment and smoke detectors as needed. Through this program we can also install or secure handrails and other safety items. Applications for this program are accepted throughout the year.

Energy Efficiency & Weatherization

This program is designed to help low-income homeowners reduce energy consumption and costs, while enhancing comfort and warmth in the home for its residents.
The repairs being performed will include:

  • Installing water heater blankets
  • Insulation of hot water pipes
  • Weatherstripping doors and windows
  • Caulking windows
  • Installing CFL’s
  • Installing faucet aerators
  • Installing programmable thermostats
  • anti-slip strips
  • and other repairs as needed!

RTSF’s Energy Efficiency Program contributes to the sustainability, both social and environmental, of the San Francisco area by working in solidarity with a low-income homeowner to improve their homes energy performance.  This year we are also partnering with SF Environment in order to bring you green home assessments (anyone qualifies for these!) where trained assessors came to your home to look at your water and energy usage and give tips to saving energy and money!

Emergency Preparedness

Details on this are still in the works. We are actively working with the City and community partners to develop and implement earthquake preparedness in our annual and year round work. Founded after the 1989 earthquake and working on the homes of low-income residents in an earthquake prone city, we are excited to expand in this direction. We hope to have this program running by 2012. If you’d like to volunteer or support this work, please contact us!

Light Repairs

While we’ve often done light repairs for seniors or adults with disablities that need a little extra support than our Home Safety & Independence program but may not need 20 volunteers during Rebuilding Day, we’re hoping to launch an “official” program within the next year or so. Currently, we are working closely with a variety of community based organizations to assess the greatest community needs with regards to light repairs. But if you’d like to volunteer or sponsor this work, please contact us!
