GIVE A BETTER LIFE: Rebuilding Together San Francisco creates a better way to give gifts this holiday season.

San Francisco, CA – November 5, 2009 – In response to national statistics on the increasing number of low-income homeowners, RTSF has announced their Give A Better Life Campaign, which encourages businesses, co-workers, friends and families to give Better Life Gift Certificates this year. RTSF is offering these unique gift certificates to provide safety modifications for low-income San Franciscans.

There are 24-million low-income homeowners in America. That number is predicted to grow to an astonishing 28.5 million by 2010. More and more families are placed in the position of choosing between vital necessities over essential home repairs and modifications. In San Francisco, 32% of seniors are living below poverty level in own their own homes, and many of these homes were built before there were any accessibility requirements or universal design.

Rebuilding Together believes the disabled and elderly should be allowed to remain in their own homes whenever possible. We believe that homeowners displaced by natural disaster will get back into safe housing with help from the community. We believe that our nation’s veterans who return with disabilities deserve a helping hand so they may return to their own homes in basic comfort. Give A Better Life gift certificates will directly fund home repairs and are available in denominations that include $1000 to patch a leaky roof; $500 to repair broken front stairs; $75 to secure home handrails and $35 to install bathtub grab bars.

In 2009, Rebuilding Together San Francisco provided home safety modifications to 148 San Francisco households, preventing dangerous falls at home. Volunteers met homeowners like 89-year-old Albert Quance, who said last year, “You gave me another 10 years of my life. Come back when I’m 100!”
