The Project: Ms. A and her husband moved into their home in the Bayview District in 1944. Since then, they have raised their 3 children, 10 grandchildren, and more than 20 great- and great-great-grandchildren in their home! Ms. A’s priority is the safety of her family, friends and community members; opening her multigenerational home to community members who are down on their luck.Ms A from the Bayview

Why We Love Her: Since last fall to now, Ms. A has always been cheerful, patient and grateful for every single repair we have provided and for this reason we love Ms. A! We first met Ms. A last fall when we hosted our first annual All*Star Build at her home, demolishing her detached two-car garage due to safety and hazardous issues. Then on National Rebuilding Day, volunteers where able to provide repairs her home desperately needed. Now, on our First Annual Fall Build Day October 27th volunteers will replace her front fence.

The Need: Ms. A’s home was ravaged by a house fire nearly two decades ago, damaging the upper level of her home. They worked hard over the years, renovating bit by bit until Ms. A spent “every last cent” in her savings account repairing her home. Before Ms. A found RTSF she was unable to use her kitchen sink, her appliances where more than 20 years old and the last time her room was painted was over 15 years ago. The need is great and which is why we’ve brought multiple teams here. Ms A from the Bayview

The Rebuilding Day Team: Ms. A’s project was one of our biggest projects on Rebuilding Day, thanks to our large team of fierce captains, repairs made were impressively possible! The Rebuilding Day team was led by Construction Captains Dan Lennon, Todd Bowen, and Pat Loughran; Volunteer Captains from Hanson Bridgett Laila Louridas and Danielle Hinton; and Volunteer Captains from Wells Fargo Krista Van Tassel and Shamieka Preston.  A special shout out goes to Volunteer Rockstar Loretta James who stepped up as an amazing equipment captain, taking charge of Rebuilding Day! We would also like to highlight Co-Volunteer Captain Danielle Hilton who was incredible and helped out on volunteer recruitment.

We would also like to acknowledge all of our volunteers who were absolutely amazing! The gardening team cleared out the whole yard with very little tools (and they all have the battle scars to prove it!). The painters worked hard, as did the deck team and the people leveling out and working on the garage area – everyone was amazing and we couldn’t have done it without them.

The Work:

Exterior:

  • Demolish garage floor and fill with dirt, mulch and plants
  • Demolish existing walkway between old garage and house
  • Repair/ complete sun deck and make a walkway to connect to the back porch
  • Supply large patio umbrella, table, chairs for sun deck

Interior:

  • Replace kitchen sink, sink’s cabinet box and counter top
  • Replace refrigerator, range and range hood
  • Replace carpet
