Sponsor a Project

Sponsor a Rebuilding Weekend project! For almost two decades, Rebuilding Together has partnered with San Francisco’s leading corporations, small businesses, professional organizations, and congregations to improve the lives of low-income San Franciscans.

As a Rebuilding Weekend Sponsor you have the option to create a team-building experience with a group of employees and family members during Rebuilding Weekend.

Sponsors can also contribute financially without sending a volunteer team; this option makes it possible for us to include individual community volunteers who would not otherwise be able to participate and provides much needed funding for our year-round work in the community.

Check out the latest Sponsorship Toolbox for more details including the various sponsorship levels and recognition opportunities.

Donate Materials

We welcome your donations of building materials and gently-used appliances. We recycle materials for use on our projects and help the environment by preventing those materials from going to landfill. Rebuilding Together can not always take donations due to limited storage space. We depend on local nonprofits and homeowners to identify what they need and will help them find it. Also, our limited staff can rarely do pick-ups and drop-offs of materials.

Examples of frequently requested materials:

  • Carpet tile in excellent condition
  • Lumber
  • Portable Room Dividers
  • Cabinetry
  • Conference tables
  • Gently used appliances less than 5 years old including free standing gas stoves & refrigerators.
  • Kitchen cabinets
  • Light fixtures
  • Plumbing fixture

Donate Time (Volunteer)

We are seeking skilled volunteers with construction experience – whether you are a professional tradesperson or a weekend warrior, we welcome your involvement. Professional or highly skilled carpenters, plumbers, electricians and painters increase the benefit and scope of what a renovation team can accomplish. Your expertise makes a big difference!

Construction Coordinators

Each year during the last weekend of April Rebuilding Together San Francisco completes over 40 residential and community improvement projects that help change the lives of thousands of people. One of the most critical elements of this work is the role of our key volunteers. These leaders are the Project Leader and Construction Coordinator.

The Construction Coordinator is the technical expert at the job site. S/he:

  • Is responsible for planning a quality renovation project
  • Visits assigned project site and determines scope of work to be accomplished
  • Coordinates with the volunteer captain to keep within project budget
  • Determines number of skilled & unskilled volunteers needed
  • Plans and organizes the work so that it can be completed by 4:00 pm on the workday
  • Picks up and delivers supplies to the site in advance of the project
  • Directs the work of volunteers on the workday
  • Conducts a final walk-through with the homeowner and volunteers at the end of the day to show what was accomplished

Rebuilding Together San Francisco staff is there to assist captains every step of the way in planning your projects, and will provide you with all the training and support you'll need to have a successful workday.

Serving as a captain offers a great opportunity to meet people and use your professional skills knowledge to make a big, lasting impact on people in need.

Time Commitment: 20-35 total hours from the first week of March through the last week of April (hours will vary based on the site scope of work). Additionally, captains work 8 hours on their Rebuilding Weekend project workday.

Qualifications:

  • Professional or everyday experience with construction and or renovation projects
  • Comfort managing volunteers with diverse skill levels
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work within a project budget
  • Flexibility and problem-solving skills

Home Safety & Independence Installers

Home Safety & Independence volunteers work on their own schedules to make critical safety repairs in the homes of San Francisco seniors. We are seeking volunteers with building and construction skills (either professional-level or experienced “handyman”) to install grab bars, handrails, smoke detectors and other safety items. Rebuilding Together San Francisco will provide training on specific installation methods. This is a great opportunity to make an important contribution to keeping people in their homes.

Time Commitment: 4-6 hours once a week, every other week or once a month.

Qualifications:

  • Comfort and experience making minor repairs and using power tools.
  • Ability to enter someone's home with sensitivity and compassion and to provide services in a non-judgmental manner.
  • Good listening and follow-through skills.
  • Commitment to improving the living situations of seniors and people with disabilities.
