San Francisco is a wonder to behold architecturally, and it is also a treasure trove beneath the plaster walls and stucco facades. Deconstruction and Reuse Network has been uncovering treasures in the walls and interiors of San Francisco for some time now, and now we will be re-purposing them in low-income homes through a new partnership with Rebuilding Together San Francisco (RTSF) and Deconstruction & Reuse Network (DRN).

First Annual Fall Build – We Need Volunteers!

Rebuilding Together San Francisco is thrilled to announce our first annual Fall Build Day, October 22nd 2011 – which also happens to be Make a Difference Day.  In direct response to the overwhelming need in our community, we’re working hard to expand our services – in addition to our April Rebuilding Day projects, each year we hope to serve more clients through our Fall Build day as well. We hope to help 10 low-income homeowners in need of critical safety repairs - while these projects may not be a great fit for our Rebuilding Day (they really don’t need a team of 10-20 volunteers), they would greatly benefit from a small team of 2-4 trades or handy volunteers. Are you comfortable with basic trades skills or tools? Do you tackle home projects in your spare time? Do you have time to donate 1 Saturday to keeping a senior safe in her home of 52 years? Please join us!

Below is a list of our Fall Build clients, the volunteers needed and the Scopes of Work we hope to complete – but we need your help! Take a look at the volunteer needs  and whether you are a new volunteer or someone who has been with us for 20 years, we need your help to kick off this much needed new program.  If you’re interested or have other questions, please contact Valerie@rebuildingtogethersf.org or (415) 905-1611. We’d love to have you! Read More »

Getting volunteers to and from work sites in a parking space deficient San Francisco has been an obstacle for volunteer management and logistics.   During a previous Rebuilding Together event, a work site was very close to the Bart Station, but transporting volunteers around the neighborhood was still a challenge.  Ben Osgood worked with ZipCar to find a perfect solution by combining an innovative mindset, and beneficial partnerships.

Tour the Dump with RTSF!

As many of our Captains know, our local trash company (which, by the way, is 100% employee owned) Recology is a HUGE supporter of our Rebuilding Day work. And we love them for that – every April, they donate dumpsters to our projects and also pick up ALL the trash (that our volunteers seperate into piles) the Monday following Rebuilding Day. That’s huge folks – easily a donation worth $15-20,ooo and it is no exaggeration to say that we could not do the great work we do without them. *round of applause*

So on that note – we thought it would be fun to schedule a Tour of the Dump! Read More »

New” seems to be the ubiquitous word here at RTSF this year.  We have a new Program Director, Jen Garber, who is proving herself fearless as she jumps headfirst into Rebuilding Day.
