Office Intern Position


Organizational Summary

Rebuilding Together San Francisco, established in 1989, provides free home repairs and renovations for a low-income, elderly and disabled San Franciscans and for nonprofit and neighborhood facilities.  Thousands of volunteers join our efforts each year.  We are local affiliate of Rebuilding Together, a national organization that includes more than 200 affiliates serving 500 communities nationwide, and mobilizing thousands of volunteers each year.

Position Summary

The Office Intern supports the administrative functions of RTSF and provides support to the Executive Director and staff with marketing and program activities as needed.  Rebuilding Together San Francisco (RTSF) has an annual budget of $700,000 and has a staff of four full-time employees plus two AmeriCorps members.  This position reports to the Executive Director.


Primary Responsibilities

Ensure an administratively smooth-running organization

  • Under direction from the Executive Director, process Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable, manage employee benefits programs and technology needs.

Administer Salesforce database  

  • Enter and maintain program and development records and reports.

 Support organization’s development and outreach

  • Under direction from the Executive Director, manage direct mail campaigns including generating lists, creating materials, organizing distribution of newsletter or appeal.
  • Ensure prompt data processing and acknowledgement for all donors and volunteers including thank you notes/emails and data entry.

 Support the organization’s events and program needs

  • Work in coordination with program staff to help manage volunteer events such as presentations at senior centers and community events.
  • In collaboration with program staff, review and update program manuals and event collateral.

 Serve as point-of-contact for incoming calls

  • Serve as first line of contact for inbound calls
  • Provide clear information to callers and potential clients for services, including being able to provide basic information about our programs, eligibility and application process.

Education and Experience Required: 

  • Strong customer service background and mindset
  • Attention to detail and exceptional follow-through
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer proficiency in Word, Access, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to handle confidential matters

Recommended Skills

  • Commitment to serving low-income communities and seniors
  • Knowledge of San Francisco, its neighborhoods and public services helpful
  • Salesforce.com or similar database experience

Mandarin or Cantonese Translators and Interpreters

Are you fluent in multiple languages? Love communicating with a diverse group of people? Use those skills to impact San Francisco low-income homeowners, elderly and people with disabilities!

*We are primarily looking for volunteers fluent in Cantonese or Mandarin*
The responsibilities of a translation volunteer include:

  • Be an interpreter for our Program Director and Program Coordinator during initial site visits and throughout the Rebuilding Day process.
  • Translate applications, documents or flyers for outreach, development, and program departments.
  • Accompany Outreach Manager or Outreach Coordinator to presentation
  • Time Commitment: Approximately 3 hrs a week depending on based on demand.
    Qualifications:

  • Fluency in a language other than English (Currently in need of Mandarin or Cantonese speaking volunteers)
  • Strong interpersonal communication
  • Comfortable working with diverse communities
  • An interest in helping under-served communities
