New” seems to be the ubiquitous word here at RTSF this year.  We have a new Program Director, Jen Garber, who is proving herself fearless as she jumps headfirst into Rebuilding Day.

Jen’s been busy meeting our extraordinary captains, recruiting new construction teams, visiting homes and facilities and adjusting to the roller coaster work cycle here.  Our new AmeriCorps Members, Chelsea and Miguel, are rolling up their sleeves and managing off-season projects, creating volunteer manuals, presenting new volunteer training, and cleaning up the warehouse (wait til you see it!)  Jonathan has a “new” job too!  As the HS&I/Energy Efficiency Coordinator, he is developing home weatherization and energy savings services for our year round homeowners and recruiting additional HS&I volunteers so we can install more grab bars, smoke detectors and handrails in 2011.  The overall office is getting some help too through the efforts of our new Office Manager Demetria Page.  She is handling phones, correspondence, office supplies, special projects and she is determined to get this office cleaned up and in ship shape!

New supporters have joined us this year as well.  We’re thrilled to welcome Rebuilding Day supporters US Bank, the Professional Property Managers Association, Castle Constructors, and Moroso Construction.  Our new contract with SF Environment will help us provide Green Home Assessments to low-income homeowners, and a new grant from the Callison Foundation supports our Home Safety & Independence Program.

Not all is new though, we’re still in our same old place on Pier 28 and we still love seeing you all when you stop by.  So make a little detour next time you’re near the Embarcadero and let us wish you a Happy New Year!
